oklahoma summer dusk

nights when
summer echoes
through trees
locusts dreaming
out loud

fireflies twinkle
between
drunken promises
like dew drops
sun catching
the dawn

deep earth
rolled in sheets
beneath
blades of grass
unnumbered
like stars of heaven

breath leaks out
